In January of 2000, Flowers by Semia planted its roots. It was then that I decided to turn my favorite hobby-- growing and arranging beautiful flowers-- into a rewarding career. My parents always kept a garden, thus cultivating my love for plants and petals from an early age. They own a wonderful 20 acre farm in Lincoln, RI that produces not only flowers, but every fruit, berry and vegetable imaginable. The summer before my freshman year in college I grew my first cutting garden with my mom. It far exceeded my expectations. The cosmos and sunflowers stood taller than us, the dahlias larger than dinner plates, and every room in the house never went without vases of fresh flowers. I was forever hooked.
As an undergraduate at the College of Holy Cross, I studied psychology with a specific concentration in biological psychology. Upon graduating, I was employed by Rhode Island Hospital and later pursued a degree from URI in landscape architecture. While studying at URI, I received a certificate from the New England School of Floral Design and worked part-time for a florist. Everyday, I found myself more and more excited to be at work. I was in love with every aspect of the business. After two years of learning and developing my own inherent abilities, I opened my doors. |
